Present perfect(something has happened) ท้ายที่สุดก็คือ present tense ที่บอกถึงเหตุการณ์ปัจจุบัน 'Sarah has lost her key' = เซร่าไม่มีกุญแจอยู่ในมือ ณ เวลานี้ (กุญแจหาย)
Past simple (something happened) จะบอกแค่เหตุการณ์ที่เกิดขึ้นในอดีต. ถ้ามีคนพูดว่า 'Sarah lost her key'. ประโยคนี้ไม่ได้บอกให้เรารู้ว่า ณ ตอนนี้ เซร่าหากุญแจเจอหรือยัง หรือว่ามีกุญแจอยู่ในมือแล้วละยัง ประโยคนี้บอกเพียงแค่ว่า เซร่าเคยทำกุญแจหายไปละทีหนึ่ง
อย่าใช้ present perfect ถ้าสถาณการณ์ปัจจุบันแตกต่างออกไป เช่น
They've gone away. They'll be back on Friday.
(พวกเขาไม่อยู่แล้ว)
They went away, but I think
they're back at home now. (ไม่ใช่ They've gone).
สังเกตดูว่า ประโยคแรก บอกว่าพวกเขาออกไปแล้ว
และจะกลับมาอีกทีวันศุกร์ ซึ่งก็หมายความว่า ณ ตอนนี้
พวกเขายังไม่ได้กลับมา ยังอยู่ที่อื่นอยู่ ซึ่งต่างจากประโยคล่าง

เราใช้ present perfect เพื่อบ่งบอกถึงข้อมูลใหม่ๆ แต่ถ้าเรายังพูดคุยเรื่องนั้นๆต่อไปเรื่อยๆ เราจะใช้ past simple เข้ามาแทน
A: Ow! I' ve burnt myself.
B: How did you do
that ? (ไม่ใช่ have you done)
A: I picked up a hot
dish. (ไม่ใช่ have picked)
A: Look! Somebody has split something on the sofa.
B:
Well, it wasn't me. I didn't do it. (ไม่ใช่้ hasn't
